Which rule is used?
Under Article 74 of Labour Law No. 4857 as amended by Law No. 7578 (in force since 1 May 2026), the tool assumes 8 weeks before birth and 16 weeks after birth for a single pregnancy (24 weeks total), and 2 extra weeks before birth for multiple pregnancy (26 weeks total). Unused prenatal days caused by doctor-approved work or an actual birth before the expected date are transferred after birth. The same tool can also calculate the 10-day paternity leave end date.
Births before 1 May 2026 use the prior 8-week-before/after baseline. However, the transitional article of Law No. 7578 granted a conditional additional 8 weeks to personnel whose old leave had ended but whose child had not reached 24 weeks on 1 April 2026, provided they applied in time. The tool flags a potential transition case; verify the actual application, medical records, employer and SGK records.
