This gold calculator, provided by Hesapstan, covers selected Turkish gold types — has altın, külçe altın, 22K gold, 14K gold, çeyrek, yarım, tam, ata, ata 5'li and gremse — and calculates their Turkish lira value using buy and sell market indicators. The tool works in both directions: gold to TRY and TRY to gold. If you have a price from a jeweller, bank or platform, the custom price option lets you calculate with that figure directly.
Understanding Turkish gold before you calculate
Turkish gold has its own vocabulary. Çeyrek, yarım, tam, ata and gremse are not generic weight descriptions — they are distinct market categories, each with its own price, buy-sell spread and role in the market. Someone familiar with gold in the Gulf, Egypt or elsewhere will find that some Turkish terms look familiar but work by different rules, while others are specific to Turkey or much less common outside the Turkish market.
The explanations on this page go beyond how to use the calculator. They cover what each gold type actually is, how to enter quantities correctly and what the result means — because reading a result correctly matters as much as getting one.
What does this calculator do?
The gold calculator estimates the Turkish lira value of the selected gold type and amount, or the approximate gold quantity that corresponds to a Turkish lira amount. All calculations are based on the buy and sell market indicators the tool displays.
- Gold to TRY: shows the approximate Turkish lira value of a gold amount or number of pieces.
- TRY to gold: shows approximately how much of the selected gold type a Turkish lira amount corresponds to.
The result always shows two values: buy price and sell price. The difference between them is the spread — a standard feature of gold pricing in every market.
Results are market indicators, not transaction guarantees. The final price at a jeweller, bank or platform may differ because of workmanship, product premium, commission, payment method or institution-specific pricing.
How to use the calculator
Start by deciding what you want to find. If you have gold and want to know its approximate lira value, use gold to TRY. If you have a lira budget and want to know how much gold it corresponds to, use TRY to gold.
- Choose the calculation direction.
- Select the gold type: has altın, külçe altın, çeyrek, yarım, tam, ata, gremse or another available type.
- Enter the amount — grams if the type is gram-based, number of pieces if it is piece-based.
- Review the buy, sell and spread results.
- Use the custom price field if you want to calculate with your own price instead of the market indicator.
Grams vs pieces: the essential distinction
The number you enter does not mean the same thing across all gold types. Some lines are gram-based; others are piece-based. Getting this wrong produces a result that looks plausible but is completely off.
Gram-based lines:
- Has Altın
- Külçe Altın / Gram Altın
- 22K gold
- 14K gold
On these lines, entering 10 means 10 grams.
Piece-based lines:
- Çeyrek Altın (Turkish quarter gold)
- Yarım Altın (Turkish half gold)
- Tam Altın (Turkish full gold)
- Ata Altın (Republic gold)
- Ata 5'li / Beşli
- Gremse Altın
On these lines, entering 2 means two pieces, not two grams. Entering 1 on the çeyrek line means one quarter-gold coin, not one gram.
How gold to TRY calculation works
The calculation multiplies the selected gold type's unit price by the entered amount. For gram-based lines the amount is grams; for piece-based lines it is number of pieces.
- Gram-based lines: gram amount × unit price
- Piece-based lines: number of pieces × piece price
Select has altın and enter 5 — the calculator estimates the TRY value of 5 grams using both buy and sell indicators. Select çeyrek and enter 2 — the calculation covers two quarter-gold pieces, not two grams.
How TRY to gold calculation works
The calculation divides the entered lira amount by the selected gold type's unit price. The result is an approximate quantity — either grams or pieces depending on the line.
This direction is useful for estimating how many grams a fixed lira budget can buy, understanding how many çeyrek or tam pieces a lira amount corresponds to, comparing different Turkish gold types against the same budget, or checking whether a jeweller's quote is in line with the market indicator.
The quantity shown is always approximate. For physical gold, the final jeweller price may include a product premium or spread not reflected in the market indicator.
Buy price, sell price and spread
In every gold market there are two prices, not one. The buy price and sell price are two separate directional indicators for the same gold type. The spread is the difference between them.
The buy price reflects the market indicator on the buying side. The sell price reflects the selling side. When reading the result, your position matters: if you are selling gold you already hold, the buy indicator is the closer reference; if you are buying, the sell indicator is more relevant.
The spread reflects transaction costs, institution pricing policies, liquidity and product type. For physical gold — particularly sarrafiye pieces such as çeyrek, ata and gremse — the spread can be wider than a first-time user might expect.
The values shown are market indicators. The final buy or sell price at a jeweller, bank or platform may differ. For large transactions, confirm the execution price directly with the place where you will trade.
Gold types in this calculator
The calculator covers gram-based lines — has altın, külçe altın, 22K and 14K — alongside piece-based sarrafiye types: çeyrek, yarım, tam, ata, ata 5'li and gremse. The sections below explain what each type is, what it weighs, how to enter quantities and what to watch out for.
What is has altın?
Has altın is the gram-based pure gold reference indicator in the Turkish market. It is understood as 24-karat gold at 1,000/1,000 purity — a pure-gold reference indicator used in Turkish gold valuation.
An important distinction: has altın is not the retail price of the 1-gram bullion product you see in a jeweller's display case. The physical products sold in the market — gram gold, small bars — are priced above the has altın indicator because they carry production cost, packaging, certification and seller margin. Has altın is the reference; külçe altın is the traded product.
In this calculator, entering 1 on the has altın line means one gram of pure gold reference. Entering 5 means five grams. This line is useful for understanding the pure-metal value of a gold amount, but the result should not be read as the final retail price of any specific gram gold product.
What is külçe altın / gram altın?
Külçe altın — also called gram altın in everyday usage — refers to investment gold traded by weight: gram pieces, small bars and larger bullion. Borsa İstanbul defines standard unworked gold as gold in bar or ingot form with a minimum purity of 995/1,000.
This is often the most relevant line for someone asking about the gram gold price in Turkey, because the gold actually traded daily for savings purposes comes in gram denominations — 1 gram, 2.5 grams, 5 grams, 10 grams, 20 grams, 50 grams, 100 grams, 250 grams, 500 grams and 1 kilogram.
The distinction from has altın matters: has altın is a 1,000/1,000 theoretical reference; külçe altın refers to physical investment gold traded by weight, commonly defined under standards such as minimum 995/1,000 purity. In practice, when someone talks about buying gram gold in Turkey, külçe altın is closer to what they mean.
In this calculator, the külçe altın line is gram-based. Entering 25 means a 25-gram calculation — not a specific branded bar or certified product. Brand, refinery, certificate and sale conditions all affect the actual market price.
What is 22K gold?
22-karat gold contains 22 parts pure gold and 2 parts other metals out of 24, giving a purity of approximately 916/1,000 — also expressed as 916 millesimal fineness. The remaining fraction is typically copper or silver, added to increase durability.
In Turkey, 22K is the foundation of the ziynet (ornamental) gold family. All traditional sarrafiye pieces — çeyrek, yarım, tam and ata — are produced at 22K. This means the 22K line in the calculator is the most relevant karat reference for users wanting to understand the gram value of traditional Turkish gold pieces.
Note that 22K is not the standard for investment bullion; that is typically 24K or 999/1,000 purity. The 22K line in this calculator is gram-based. Entering 10 means 10 grams of 22K gold, not ten gold pieces.
What is 14K gold?
14-karat gold contains 14 parts pure gold out of 24, giving a purity of approximately 585/1,000. Products are typically stamped 585 or 14K. The remaining fraction — copper, silver or zinc depending on the alloy — makes 14K harder and more durable than higher-purity gold.
14K is widely used in everyday jewellery — rings, necklaces and bracelets — especially pieces that need to withstand daily wear or hold gemstones. In Turkey it is not a common savings vehicle the way gram gold or traditional sarrafiye pieces are, but it is significant in the jewellery sector.
The 14K line in this calculator is gram-based. Entering 10 means 10 grams of 14K gold. This gives an approximate gram-level value; workmanship and design add to the final price of any finished jewellery piece.
What is çeyrek altın — Turkish quarter gold?
Çeyrek altın is one of the most widely held gold types in Turkey. Given as gifts at weddings, engagements, births and circumcisions, and held as savings, it has been part of Turkish gold culture for generations.
In everyday use, çeyrek refers to the Ziynet Çeyrek minted by the Turkish Mint as part of the Republic gold / ziynet gold family. This piece weighs approximately 1.754 grams, has a diameter of about 18 mm and is produced at 22K — approximately 916/1,000 purity. Its pure gold content is about 1.6 grams, but it trades in the market as a piece, not as a gram weight.
In this calculator, the çeyrek line is piece-based. Entering 1 means one çeyrek piece. Entering 3 means three çeyrek pieces, not 3 grams.
Çeyrek may appear in the market as Yeni (new issue) or Eski (old issue). This distinction does not usually reflect a difference in karat or base weight; it reflects a market price difference between more recently minted and older pieces, influenced by condition, demand and jeweller policy.
What is yarım altın — Turkish half gold?
Yarım altın sits between çeyrek and tam in the ziynet gold family. It is used for gifts and savings, and carries roughly twice the weight and value of a çeyrek.
The Ziynet Yarım weighs approximately 3.508 grams, has a diameter of about 22 mm and is produced at 22K — approximately 916/1,000 purity.
In this calculator, the yarım line is piece-based. Entering 1 means one yarım piece, not one gram. The Yeni / Eski distinction applies to yarım as it does to çeyrek.
What is tam altın — Turkish full gold?
Tam altın is the largest standard piece in the ziynet gold family — roughly four times the weight of a çeyrek and twice that of a yarım. It is used for higher-value gifts and savings.
The Ziynet Tam weighs approximately 7.016 grams, has a diameter of about 23 mm and is produced at 22K — approximately 916/1,000 purity.
A common source of confusion: tam altın and ata altın are close in size but belong to different gold families and are priced separately. Tam altın belongs to the ziynet family; ata altın belongs to the meskûk / Republic gold family. Selecting the wrong line in the calculator will give a misleading result.
In this calculator, the tam line is piece-based. Entering 1 means one tam piece. The Yeni / Eski distinction applies here as well.
What is ata altın — Turkish Republic gold?
Ata altın is the common market name for Meskûk Cumhuriyet Altını — Republic gold of the meskûk / sikke family. The Turkish Mint uses the term Meskûk Cumhuriyet Altını as the official name; the market knows it as ata altın or ata lirası because it bears a portrait of Atatürk.
An ata altın piece weighs approximately 7.216 grams and is produced at 22K — approximately 916/1,000 purity. Its pure gold content is about 6.6 grams.
The distinction from tam altın is critical. Tam altın belongs to the ziynet family and weighs approximately 7.016 grams; ata altın belongs to the meskûk family and weighs approximately 7.216 grams. Both are 22K, but they are minted in different dies, priced differently and tracked as separate lines in the market. Using one in place of the other in the calculator will give an incorrect result.
In this calculator, the ata line is piece-based. Entering 1 means one ata piece. The Yeni / Eski distinction applies here too.
What is ata 5'li / beşli?
Ata 5'li — also called beşli — is the larger format of the meskûk Republic gold family. As the name suggests, it is roughly five times the size of a single ata altın piece and is used for higher-value savings and gifts.
An ata 5'li piece weighs approximately 36.08 grams and is produced at 22K — approximately 916/1,000 purity. Its pure gold content is approximately 33 grams.
One thing to be aware of: the word beşli can appear in more than one Turkish gold family. The ATA5 line in this calculator refers specifically to the meskûk ata 5'li and should not be confused with a ziynet beşli, which is a different product priced differently. The calculator uses the ATA5 market quotation directly — it is not a manual multiplication of five tam altın pieces.
In this calculator, the ata 5'li line is piece-based. Entering 1 means one ata 5'li piece — there is no need to enter 36.08 grams manually. The Yeni / Eski distinction applies here as well.
What is gremse altın?
Gremse altın is a larger ziynet-family gold piece, also known in the market as 2.5'luk or İkibuçukluk. The name refers to a piece roughly equivalent to 2.5 tam altın — it does not mean 2.5 grams.
The Ziynet İkibuçukluk weighs approximately 17.54 grams and is produced at 22K — approximately 916/1,000 purity. Because of its size, it tends to appear in higher-value transactions rather than the everyday çeyrek or yarım exchange.
In this calculator, the gremse line is piece-based. Entering 1 means one gremse piece — there is no need to enter 17.54 grams. Entering 2.5 on this line would mean two and a half gremse pieces, which is not a standard transaction. The Yeni / Eski distinction applies to gremse as well.
What do Yeni and Eski mean in Turkish gold prices?
Many Turkish gold types are tracked in two separate market lines: Yeni (new issue) and Eski (old issue). This distinction reflects a price difference in the market between more recently minted pieces and older ones.
The Yeni / Eski split does not usually indicate a difference in karat or base weight. For the same product type, purity and weight are generally treated as equivalent. The price difference is more often about minting date, market demand, liquidity, physical condition and buyer-seller preference.
If the piece you have is new issue, choose the Yeni line for a closer comparison. If it is old issue, choose Eski.
When to use a custom price
The custom price option lets you calculate with a price you enter yourself rather than the displayed market indicator.
This is useful when a jeweller gives you a price that differs from the market indicator, when you want to calculate using a specific bank or platform rate, or when you want to compare an offer you received against the market indicator.
The custom price is entered manually and is not fetched from the market. The result depends entirely on the accuracy of the value you enter.
Calculation examples
The numbers in these examples are not current market prices. They are used only to illustrate the calculation logic. Your actual result will vary according to the market indicators shown at the time, or the custom price you enter.
5 grams of has altın
Select has altın and enter 5. The calculator shows two TRY values for 5 grams — one based on the buy indicator, one on the sell indicator.
- 5 × has altın buy indicator
- 5 × has altın sell indicator
The difference between the two values is shown separately as the spread.
2 çeyrek gold pieces
Select çeyrek and enter 2. The calculator covers two pieces — the number 2 here means pieces, not grams. This is useful for estimating the value of wedding gifts, savings or pieces you already hold.
How much gold does 10,000 TRY correspond to?
Switch to TRY to gold, select has altın and enter 10,000. The calculator estimates how many grams that amount corresponds to using both buy and sell indicators. What you can actually acquire from a bank, jeweller or platform may differ because of spread, commission or institution-specific pricing.
Calculating with a custom price
If a jeweller quotes you a price different from the market indicator, enter it in the custom price field to calculate the total value or quantity based on that figure. This makes it straightforward to compare the jeweller's offer directly against the market indicator.
Why can a jeweller's price differ from the Hesapstan result?
Hesapstan calculates using market indicators. Physical transaction prices are shaped by factors that do not always appear in the indicator: the jeweller's margin, product condition, issue date, payment method, platform policy and local market conditions. Even the same gold type can carry different prices at different shops or on different days.
- The jeweller's buy-sell spread.
- Whether the piece is new or old issue.
- Workmanship or product premium.
- Local supply and demand.
- Payment method.
- Bank, platform or jeweller policy.
- Physical condition, packaging or certificate.
- Market movement during the day.
Treat the Hesapstan result as a comparison and orientation tool, not as the single correct transaction price. For larger transactions, confirm the execution price directly with the place where you will trade.
What this calculator does not do
The gold calculator provides a practical market-indicator calculation. Understanding what it does not cover helps you read the result correctly.
- Does not provide an official government gold price.
- Does not guarantee a jeweller's final transaction price.
- Does not automatically calculate workmanship, commission or product premium.
- Does not provide historical gold price charts.
- Does not calculate Reşat or Hamit gold.
- Does not show unsupported computed types such as 18K gold as separate provider-backed lines.
- Does not calculate silver or other metals on this page.
- Does not show XAUUSD or troy ounce conversion in the current interface.
- Does not provide investment advice.
This tool is for informational purposes. Results are calculated from market indicators or the custom price you enter. Before any formal decision, investment action or large transaction, confirm the current price with the place where you will actually trade.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the gold calculator work?
The calculator multiplies the selected gold type's unit price by the entered amount, or divides a Turkish lira amount by the unit price. Has altın, külçe altın, 22K and 14K are gram-based. Çeyrek, yarım, tam, ata, ata 5'li and gremse are piece-based.
What is the difference between has altın and külçe altın?
Has altın is a 1,000/1,000 pure-gold reference indicator used to understand the underlying metal value. Külçe altın refers to physical investment gold traded by weight, commonly defined under standards such as minimum 995/1,000 purity. When most people ask about the gram gold price in Turkey, külçe altın is often closer to what they mean.
Should I enter grams or pieces?
It depends on the gold type. Has altın, külçe altın, 22K and 14K use grams. Çeyrek, yarım, tam, ata, ata 5'li and gremse use number of pieces.
What is the difference between tam altın and ata altın?
Tam altın belongs to the ziynet (ornamental) gold family and weighs approximately 7.016 grams. Ata altın belongs to the meskûk Republic gold family and weighs approximately 7.216 grams. Both are 22K but are minted differently and priced separately. Selecting the wrong line produces a misleading result.
Why does the buy price differ from the sell price?
They represent two separate directional indicators for the same gold type. The gap — the spread — varies by jeweller, bank, platform and market conditions. When selling gold, the buy indicator is the closer reference; when buying, the sell indicator is more relevant.
Why can a jeweller's price differ from the Hesapstan result?
The calculator uses market indicators. A jeweller's price may differ because of workmanship, product premium, spread, payment method, product condition and local market factors. Use the result for comparison and orientation, not as a guaranteed final price.
When should I use a custom price?
When you want to calculate with a price from a jeweller, bank or platform rather than the displayed market indicator. The value is entered manually and the result depends on the accuracy of what you enter.
