This fuel consumption calculator is provided by Hesapstan for drivers planning trips in Turkey who want to estimate fuel used, total trip cost, cost per kilometre and approximate range by budget.

What does this fuel consumption calculator calculate?

This calculator estimates how many litres of fuel a vehicle will use for a given distance and how much that fuel will cost in Turkish lira. It also supports real consumption calculation and estimated driving range by budget.

  • Intercity mode uses KGM province-centre road distance between two Turkish provinces.
  • Trip cost mode uses manually entered distance, L/100 km consumption and fuel price.
  • Find consumption mode calculates L/100 km and km/L from fuel used and distance travelled.
  • Range by budget mode estimates purchasable fuel and approximate range from a budget.
Fuel price is not live

The fuel price is entered by the user. The calculator does not automatically fetch the current pump price.

What is fuel consumption?

Fuel consumption is the amount of fuel a vehicle uses to travel a specific distance. In Turkey and much of Europe, it is commonly expressed as L/100 km: litres of fuel used per 100 kilometres.

For example, a vehicle with 6.5 L/100 km consumption theoretically uses 6.5 litres to travel 100 kilometres. Real consumption may differ between city driving, highways, heavy traffic and mountain roads.

L/100 km vs km/L

A lower L/100 km value means lower fuel use. A higher km/L value means the vehicle travels farther with one litre of fuel.

How is fuel cost calculated?

Fuel cost is calculated by multiplying the distance by the vehicle’s L/100 km consumption, dividing by 100, and then multiplying the result by the fuel price per litre.

Formula: fuel used = distance × consumption / 100. Total cost = fuel used × fuel price per litre.

For example, a 380 km trip with 6.2 L/100 km consumption and a 45 TL/L fuel price uses about 23.56 litres and costs about 1,060.20 TL.

How does intercity fuel calculation work in Turkey?

Intercity mode uses the KGM road distance between selected Turkish province centres, then applies your fuel consumption and fuel price to estimate trip fuel cost.

This is useful for planning province-to-province travel in Turkey. If round trip is selected, the distance is doubled before fuel and cost are calculated.

KGM distance is not navigation routing

KGM distance is a province-centre to province-centre road distance. It is not live, not traffic-aware and not door-to-door routing.

How can I find real fuel consumption?

Real fuel consumption is found by dividing the fuel used by the distance travelled and multiplying by 100. This is useful when checking your vehicle’s dashboard value or measuring consumption from a fuel tank record.

Formula: L/100 km = fuel used / distance travelled × 100. km/L = distance travelled / fuel used.

For example, if a vehicle uses 41 litres over 640 km, its consumption is about 6.41 L/100 km and about 15.61 km/L.

How far can I drive with a fuel budget?

Range by budget estimates how many litres of fuel your budget can buy and how far that amount may take you based on the vehicle’s L/100 km consumption.

Formula: purchasable fuel = budget / fuel price. Estimated range = purchasable fuel / L/100 km consumption × 100.

For example, a 1,250 TL budget, 44 TL/L fuel price and 5.8 L/100 km consumption gives about 28.41 litres and an estimated range of about 490 km.

How should cost per person be interpreted?

Cost per person is the total fuel cost divided by the number of passengers. It is useful for shared trips, family travel and informal fuel cost splitting.

This calculation divides the fuel cost only; it does not model the additional weight of passengers or include road tolls, parking or other travel expenses.

Passenger count is optional

If two or more passengers are entered, the calculator shows fuel cost per person.

Can I use it for petrol, diesel or LPG?

Yes. The same calculation works for petrol, diesel and LPG as long as you enter the correct litre price and the correct consumption value for that fuel type.

For an LPG vehicle, use the LPG price and the vehicle’s LPG consumption. For diesel or petrol, use the relevant fuel price and your vehicle’s real or average L/100 km value.

Fuel type does not fetch a price automatically

The calculator does not pull live fuel prices by fuel type. The result depends on the values you enter.

When is this calculation useful?

Fuel consumption calculation is useful when planning a travel budget, comparing vehicles, splitting fuel costs or estimating monthly driving expenses.

  • Estimating fuel budget before a holiday or road trip in Turkey.
  • Checking fuel cost between two Turkish provinces.
  • Comparing a dashboard consumption value with a tank-based calculation.
  • Estimating how far a fixed fuel budget may take you.
  • Splitting fuel expenses among passengers.

Common mistakes

The most common mistakes in fuel cost calculation come from confusing units, entering an outdated fuel price or treating an approximate road distance as an exact door-to-door route.

  • Entering km/L where the calculator expects L/100 km.
  • Forgetting to select round trip.
  • Using an outdated fuel price.
  • Using city consumption for a highway trip without adjustment.
  • Treating KGM province-centre distance as live navigation distance.
  • Assuming cost per person includes tolls and all travel expenses.

Limitations and trust note

This calculator is for informational trip planning. Its results are estimates based on the values entered by the user.

Result is not a final travel cost

The calculation does not include motorway tolls, bridges, tunnels, ferries, parking, maintenance, tyres, depreciation or live traffic effects.

Actual fuel use may change with speed, driving style, load, air conditioning, tyre pressure, road gradient, weather and traffic conditions.

Related calculations

Fuel consumption calculation can be used together with distance, EV charging cost and taxi fare calculators in the travel category. Distance helps with route planning, EV charging cost helps compare alternative vehicle energy costs, and taxi fare helps compare private car travel with taxi use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate fuel consumption?

Divide the fuel used by the distance travelled and multiply by 100. Formula: L/100 km = fuel used / distance × 100.

How do I calculate fuel cost for a trip?

First calculate fuel used with distance × consumption / 100. Then multiply the litres used by the fuel price per litre.

Is the KGM intercity distance a live route?

No. It is a static province-centre road distance, not a live, traffic-aware or door-to-door navigation route.

Can I use this for petrol, diesel and LPG?

Yes. Use the correct litre price and the correct L/100 km consumption value for the fuel type you want to calculate.

What does cost per person include?

It shows only the fuel cost divided by passenger count. It does not include tolls, parking, ferries or other travel expenses.
