The Hesapstan discount calculator is designed to calculate discounted price from original price and discount rate, discount rate from original and discounted prices, or original price from discounted price and discount rate more clearly. It helps check shopping discounts quickly, but it does not automatically include VAT, shipping, stacked coupons or profitability analysis.

What does the discount calculator do?

The calculator supports three discount tasks: finding discounted price from original price and discount rate, finding discount rate from original and discounted prices, and recovering the original price from discounted price and discount rate.

The result can show discounted price, amount saved, discount rate and original price together. This lets you understand both the price change and the percentage discount.

Three-way calculation

If you know any two of original price, discounted price and discount rate, you can calculate the third value.

How is discounted price calculated?

In discounted price mode, you enter original price and discount rate. The tool first calculates the discount amount, then subtracts it from the original price.

The formula is discount amount = original price × discount rate / 100, and discounted price = original price - discount amount. For example, a 30% discount on 200 gives amount saved 60 and final price 140.

How is discount rate calculated?

In discount rate mode, you enter original price and discounted price. The tool calculates how much the price decreased relative to the original price.

The formula is discount rate = (original price - discounted price) / original price × 100. If original price is 200 and discounted price is 140, the discount rate is 30%.

Discounted price cannot exceed original price

When calculating a discount rate, the discounted price cannot be greater than the original price. If it is greater, the change is a price increase, not a discount.

How is original price calculated?

In original price mode, you enter the discounted price and discount rate. The tool reverses the discount and calculates the price before discount.

The formula is original price = discounted price / (1 - discount rate / 100). If discounted price is 140 and discount rate is 30%, original price is 140 / 0.70 = 200.

Original price cannot be recovered from a 100% discount

At a 100% discount, discounted price becomes 0. The reverse formula would divide by zero, so original price cannot be calculated mathematically.

Discount amount versus discount rate

Discount amount is the money subtracted from the price. Discount rate is that decrease expressed as a percentage of the original price.

For example, if a 200 item is discounted by 60, the amount saved is 60 and the discount rate is 60 / 200 × 100 = 30%. The same discount amount can represent different percentages on different original prices.

Amount and percentage differ

A 50-unit discount does not mean the same percentage for every product. The percentage depends on the original price.

How should 0% and 100% discounts be understood?

At a 0% discount, discounted price equals original price and amount saved is 0. This is a valid calculation.

At a 100% discount, discounted price is 0. However, if you only know discounted price and a 100% discount rate, the original price cannot be recovered because the reverse formula divides by zero.

Are stacked discounts supported?

This tool calculates a single discount rate or a single price difference. It does not automatically calculate stacked discounts such as 20% followed by 10%.

20% + 10% is not simply 30%

In stacked discounts, the second discount is applied to the already discounted price. Therefore, 20% followed by 10% is not the same as a simple 30% discount.

Are VAT, shipping and coupons included?

No. The calculator does not automatically include VAT, shipping, coupon codes, cashback, loyalty points or marketplace commissions.

If the entered price includes VAT, the result is interpreted with VAT included. If it excludes VAT, the result is interpreted without VAT. The important point is to compare prices with the same scope.

Use consistent prices

If original price includes VAT but discounted price excludes VAT, the discount rate will be wrong. Compare prices with the same tax and cost scope.

How does discount affect profit?

Discount reduces selling price, so it directly affects profit and profit margin. To check whether a product remains profitable after discount, calculate the discounted price first, then use it in a profit calculator.

In e-commerce, shipping, commission and advertising costs can turn a seemingly attractive discount into a loss.

Can it detect fake discounts?

No. The tool performs mathematical calculation from the prices or discount rate you enter. It does not fetch historical prices or detect whether a store increased the price before showing a discount.

To judge whether a campaign is truly beneficial, compare historical prices, other stores, shipping costs and additional fees separately.

What does this tool not calculate?

  • It does not automatically calculate multiple stacked discounts.
  • It does not separately handle fixed coupon plus percentage discount combinations.
  • It does not calculate VAT, shipping, commission or cashback.
  • It does not calculate profit margin after discount.
  • It does not fetch price history or detect fake discounts.
  • It does not choose the best price among multiple stores or campaigns.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is discounted price calculated?

Discount amount = original price × discount rate / 100. Discounted price = original price - discount amount.

How do I calculate discount rate?

Discount rate = (original price - discounted price) / original price × 100.

How do I calculate original price before discount?

Original price = discounted price / (1 - discount rate / 100).

Why cannot original price be calculated from a 100% discount?

Because 1 - 100/100 equals 0. The reverse formula would divide by zero.

Is 20% then 10% the same as 30%?

No. The second discount is applied after the first discount, so stacked discounts are not simple addition.

Are VAT or shipping included?

No. The tool calculates only from entered prices and discount rate. VAT, shipping, coupons and commissions are not added automatically.
