The Hesapstan ovulation calculator is designed to estimate your ovulation day, fertile window, and next expected period date, based on your last period start date and your average cycle length.
How is ovulation day estimated?
In the standard estimation method, the luteal phase (the phase after ovulation) typically lasts about 14 days. So the estimated ovulation day falls about 14 days before the next expected period: the cycle length is added to the last period date, then 14 days are subtracted.
The fertile window covers a few days before and after ovulation, because sperm can survive for several days while the egg is typically viable for fertilization for about 12–24 hours. The tool therefore shows a range starting 5 days before ovulation and ending 1 day after.
What is this estimate based on?
- It assumes your cycle is regular and repeats at the length you enter each month.
- The luteal phase is assumed to be a fixed ~14 days; this is typical for many people but is not exact for everyone.
- Stress, illness, travel, or hormonal changes can shift the actual ovulation day; this tool provides only a statistical estimate.
What does this tool not calculate?
- It does not provide a reliable estimate for irregular cycles.
- It does not evaluate physical signs such as basal body temperature, cervical mucus tracking, or ovulation test results; it is a date-based calculation only.
- It does not guarantee conception or contraception and is not a medical diagnostic tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is ovulation day calculated?
The cycle length is added to the last period start date, then the typical 14-day luteal phase is subtracted to estimate the ovulation day.
What is the fertile window?
The fertile window is the range of days with the highest chance of conception, covering a few days before and after ovulation. The tool shows this as 5 days before to 1 day after the estimated ovulation day.
Is this accurate for irregular cycles?
No. The calculation assumes your cycle is regular and repeats at the length you enter; the estimate becomes less reliable for irregular cycles.
Does this tool guarantee conception?
No. This is only a statistical estimate, not a medical diagnosis or guarantee. Consult a healthcare professional for fertility or family planning.
