This tool computes the Turkish high school graduation score from the year-end achievement scores of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12. The graduation score is the figure printed on your diploma and, under the MEB rule, is the arithmetic mean of those four years.
How the graduation score is calculated
Under Article 65/1 of the Secondary Education Institutions Regulation, the graduation score is the arithmetic mean of the year-end achievement scores of grades nine, ten, eleven and twelve. The division is carried to four decimal places.
The value to enter here is each grade's year-end achievement score, not individual course grades. Under Article 55, the year-end achievement score is the total weighted course points divided by the total weekly lesson hours, and it appears on your report card and in your e-Okul record.
A common mistake is entering a course average or a single course score here. Enter one YBP value per grade. If you do not know your YBP, use the high school YBP calculator first.
Does a prep year affect the graduation score?
No. Article 65 defines the graduation score over the year-end achievement scores of grades nine, ten, eleven and twelve only. A prep year is not one of those four grades and does not enter the mean.
The tool therefore has no separate field for a prep year. Having attended one does not change your graduation score.
If you studied a year abroad
Article 66 provides that for students returning to Turkey after studying part of their schooling abroad, the graduation score is determined from the year-end achievement scores of the years studied in Turkey together with the year-end scores of the courses taken abroad.
If the year-end achievement scores cannot be obtained from the foreign school by the end of grade 12, the graduation score is determined from the years studied in Turkey. In that case enter only the years you have; the tool excludes blank grades from the mean and reports which ones it left out.
Leaving a grade blank excludes that year from the mean rather than scoring it zero. If you completed all four grades, enter all four — otherwise your graduation score will look higher than it is.
Worked example
A student has year-end achievement scores of 82 in grade 9, 85 in grade 10, 88 in grade 11 and 90 in grade 12.
- Total: 82 + 85 + 88 + 90 = 345.
- Graduation score: 345 / 4 = 86.2500.
- Because the division is carried to four decimals, the result is shown as 86.2500.
What the graduation score is used for
The graduation score appears on your diploma. Under Article 64 it also determines the school valedictorian: at the end of the school year the student with the highest graduation score is designated by the teachers board. If graduation scores are equal, the student with the higher final-year achievement score is chosen.
The graduation score is not the OBP or the YKS placement score used in university admission. This tool contains no ÖSYM placement logic and produces no placement score.
Common mistakes
- Entering a course average or a single course grade instead of the year-end achievement score.
- Typing 0 for a grade you did not attend: leave the field blank and the tool excludes that year.
- Trying to add a prep year as a fifth year.
- Mistaking the graduation score for the OBP or a YKS placement score.
- Rounding the result to two decimals: the rule requires four.
