Exact net/rule logic and the estimated 100–500 score are kept separate; the official score is always the one issued by ÖSYM.
What is the MSÜ exam?
MSÜ is the Military Student Candidate Selection Examination used at the first stage of the selection process for the National Defence University’s War Colleges and NCO Vocational Colleges in Türkiye. ÖSYM administers and evaluates the exam, but the MSÜ result alone is not a final placement decision.
The result is one component used to identify candidates for later selection stages. The Ministry of National Defence separately publishes the year’s recruitment rules, later-stage requirements and call thresholds.
Reaching a sufficient MSÜ score does not complete the process. Candidates must also meet the relevant year’s YKS requirements and the later military-student selection conditions.
What is exact and what is estimated?
Test nets and whether a weighted score is eligible to be calculated are determined exactly by the official rules. The ordinary 100–500 MSÜ-SA, EA, SÖ and GN outputs shown by the calculator are year-specific calibrated estimates; they are not presented as a substitute for ÖSYM’s cohort standardization or result document.

- Exact: whether Turkish or Basic Mathematics reaches the 0.5 raw-score condition.
- Exact: the official test weights of MSÜ-SA, EA, SÖ and GN.
- Estimated: the four 100–500 scores for the selected year.
Use the estimate for mock-exam analysis and scenario comparison. Formal applications, calls and selection decisions should use the official result and the current Ministry of National Defence announcements.
How is the MSÜ net calculated?
For each subtest, the raw score or net is net = correct − wrong / 4. Four wrong answers cancel one correct answer.
- Turkish: 40 questions
- Social Sciences: 20 questions evaluated for each candidate
- Basic Mathematics: 40 questions
- Science: 20 questions
If you already know a net, leave Wrong empty and type the net directly into Correct. This is useful for comparing mock-exam results quickly.
Why does the calculator use 20 Social Sciences questions?
The ÖSYM guide may show 25 answer positions in the Social Sciences area because of the alternative Religious Culture/Philosophy arrangement. Each candidate, however, is evaluated on a 20-question set: the first 15 are common, followed by either five Religious Culture questions or five additional Philosophy questions, depending on exemption status.
The calculator therefore does not need a separate Religion/Philosophy scoring selector. Enter the total correct and wrong answers from the 20 Social Sciences questions that count for you.
Alternative questions exist for the exemption arrangement. The scored Social Sciences set for each candidate is 20 questions, which is why the calculator uses a 20-question input limit.
When is an MSÜ score calculated?
Under the ÖSYM guide, a candidate receives weighted MSÜ scores only if they obtain at least 0.5 raw points in either Basic Mathematics or Turkish. If neither test reaches that condition, SA, EA, SÖ and GN scores are not calculated.
Strong Science and Social Sciences nets do not override this rule. At least one of Turkish or Basic Mathematics must reach 0.5 raw points.
How is the official MSÜ score built?
ÖSYM first calculates each subtest’s raw score. It then uses the cohort mean and standard deviation to create standard scores with a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. Score-type weights are applied to those standard scores, and the weighted scores are finally transformed so that the lowest is 100 and the highest is 500.
The published weights apply to standard scores, not raw nets. Multiplying a Mathematics net by 35% and adding the other weighted nets does not reproduce an official MSÜ-SA or MSÜ-EA score.
MSÜ-SA, EA, SÖ and GN weights
All four score types use the same tests but give them different importance. The same net profile can therefore produce different SA, EA, SÖ and GN scores.
- MSÜ-SA: Turkish 25%, Basic Mathematics 35%, Science 30%, Social Sciences 10%.
- MSÜ-EA: Turkish 35%, Basic Mathematics 35%, Science 10%, Social Sciences 20%.
- MSÜ-SÖ: Turkish 35%, Basic Mathematics 20%, Science 10%, Social Sciences 35%.
- MSÜ-GN: Turkish 33%, Basic Mathematics 33%, Science 17%, Social Sciences 17%.
The “highest estimated score type” shown in the results only compares your own four estimated scores. It does not tell you which school you will be called to, whether you pass physical/medical stages, or whether you will be placed.
Why can the same nets produce a different estimate by year?
The calculator treats the 2018–2026 exam years with separate models. Selecting another year can therefore change the estimated score for the same nets because each year has its own calibration to the live reference-calculator behaviour.
This is intended for comparing historical or practice performance within the relevant year. Do not turn estimates from different years directly into a placement or ranking comparison as though the candidate populations and selection conditions were identical.
How to use the MSÜ calculator
- Choose the exam year you want to calculate.
- Enter correct and wrong answers for Turkish, Social Sciences, Basic Mathematics and Science.
- If you already know a net, leave Wrong blank and enter the net in Correct.
- Press Calculate; the tool first computes the nets and checks the 0.5 raw-score eligibility rule.
- If eligible, review the year-specific estimated MSÜ-SA, EA, SÖ and GN scores together.
- Use the weight table and highest-estimated-type indication to analyse your study profile, not as a formal selection result.
Correct plus wrong answers cannot exceed the evaluated question count for a test. Invalid inputs produce an error instead of a misleading score.
How are MSÜ and YKS connected?
Sitting the MSÜ exam does not remove the YKS requirement for military-student placement. In the 2026 ÖSYM announcement, War College candidates must also sit TYT and AYT, while NCO Vocational College candidates must sit TYT.
MSÜ should therefore be read as one stage of the process, alongside the year’s Ministry of National Defence recruitment guide and YKS requirements. Hesapstan’s TYT and YKS calculators can be used separately to examine those examination components.

- Using correct answers alone and forgetting that four wrong answers cancel one correct.
- Treating all 25 Social Sciences answer positions as 25 scored questions.
- Ignoring the 0.5 raw-score condition in Turkish/Mathematics.
- Multiplying raw nets directly by the official percentages and calling the result an MSÜ score.
- Treating the estimated 100–500 output as the official ÖSYM result.
- Reading the highest estimated score type as a school eligibility or placement guarantee.
- Considering MSÜ independently of YKS and later military selection stages.

Do four wrong answers cancel one correct answer in MSÜ?

What is the minimum net needed for an MSÜ score?
