The Hesapstan time unit converter is designed to convert between seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years more clearly. The tool uses fixed ratios for seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks, while month and year conversions are approximate and based on average calendar values.
What does the time unit converter do?
This tool converts a time value from one selected unit to another. For example, you can convert hours to minutes, days to hours, weeks to days, years to days or months to hours.
The result is not limited to the selected target unit. The tool can also show the same duration as total seconds, total minutes, total hours, total days, total weeks, approximate months and approximate years.
This tool does not calculate the difference between two dates or two times. It converts an already-known duration from one unit to another.
Exact time conversions
Conversions between seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks are based on fixed ratios. These conversions are exact.
- 1 minute = 60 seconds
- 1 hour = 60 minutes = 3,600 seconds
- 1 day = 24 hours = 86,400 seconds
- 1 week = 7 days = 604,800 seconds
Why are month and year conversions approximate?
Months and years are not always the same length in the calendar. Months may have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days. Years may have 365 or 366 days depending on leap years.
For that reason, the tool uses average calendar values for month and year conversions: 1 year = 365.2425 days and 1 month = one twelfth of that average year. This is useful for broad unit conversion, but it does not represent a specific calendar month or specific year.
Month and year conversions are not real calendar intervals. If you need the exact number of days in January, February or a specific year, use a date-difference calculator.
Converting hours to minutes and seconds
To convert hours to minutes, multiply by 60. To convert hours to seconds, multiply by 3,600. For example, 2 hours = 120 minutes = 7,200 seconds.
These conversions are direct and reliable for lessons, work sessions, video durations, exercise plans and general time tracking.
Converting days to hours and weeks
1 day is treated as 24 hours. Therefore, converting days to hours is a simple multiplication by 24. Converting days to weeks uses 1 week = 7 days.
For example, 14 days equals 2 weeks, 336 hours or 20,160 minutes. These are calendar-day conversions and do not exclude business days or holidays.
Why does converting months to days require care?
There is no single exact answer to “how many days are in a month?” February may have 28 or 29 days, while other months may have 30 or 31 days.
This tool treats a month as an average calendar month. That is suitable for general unit conversion, but it may not be enough for rent, salary, contracts, official periods or real date ranges.
Why is a year not simply 365 or 366 days here?
The tool uses an average Gregorian year of 365.2425 days. This long-term average accounts for leap-year structure in a practical way.
That is why 1 year is calculated as 31,556,952 seconds. If you need the exact length of a specific year, such as whether 2024 is a leap year, you should calculate the actual date interval.
How should I read the result?
The main result is the conversion from your source unit to the selected target unit. Additional rows show the same duration in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, approximate months and approximate years.
These extra rows help compare the same duration at different scales. Month and year rows should be read as approximate averages, especially in official or contract-based contexts.
Is time conversion the same as date difference?
No. Time conversion changes a known duration from one unit to another. Date difference calculates the actual calendar gap between two real dates.
For example, “how many months is 90 days?” is a unit conversion and gives an approximate month value. “How many days are between January 1 and April 1?” is a date-difference question and should be calculated on the calendar.
When is a time-difference calculator better?
If your question is “how many hours are between 09:15 and 17:45?”, use a time-difference calculator instead of a unit converter.
Time conversion is useful when you already have a duration. A time-difference calculator finds the duration from two time points.
When do I need business-day calculation?
Time conversion treats all days equally. It does not exclude weekends, public holidays or administrative leave.
If your question involves business days, working days or holiday exclusions, a business-day calculator is the better tool.
What does this tool not calculate?
- It does not calculate the real calendar difference between two dates.
- It does not find the duration between two clock times.
- It does not calculate business days, weekends or public holidays.
- It does not use the actual number of days in a specific calendar month.
- It does not determine whether a specific year is a leap year from a date interval.
- It does not calculate time zones, countdowns, age, Hijri dates or Ramadan.
For months, years, contracts, rent, salaries, due dates or official periods, the real calendar interval may matter. Do not rely only on unit conversion in those cases.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert hours to minutes?
Multiply the number of hours by 60. For example, 2 hours equals 120 minutes.
How do I convert days to hours?
Multiply the number of days by 24. For example, 3 days equals 72 hours.
How many days are in a week?
1 week equals 7 days. This conversion is exact.
How many days are in a month?
This tool uses an average month value. A real calendar month may have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days.
How many days are in a year?
The tool uses an average year of 365.2425 days. This is not the exact length of every specific year.
Does this calculate the difference between two dates?
No. This is a unit converter. For the real difference between two dates, use a date-difference calculator.
