The Hesapstan midterm-final average calculator is designed to estimate a single course average and passing status from midterm grade, final grade and midterm weight more clearly. The tool automatically treats final weight as 100 minus midterm weight, calculates the course average and can show the final score needed to pass.

What does the midterm-final calculator do?

This tool calculates one course average from midterm grade, final grade and midterm weight. Final weight is not entered separately; if midterm weight is 40, final weight is automatically 60.

The result can show course average, approximate letter grade, pass/fail status, midterm weight, final weight and the required final score if the current result is below the pass threshold.

Not an official university result

This tool is informational. Your university may use a separate final minimum, makeup exam rules, curve grading, quiz/project/lab weights or a different letter-grade system.

How is the midterm-final average calculated?

The course average is calculated by multiplying the midterm grade by its weight and the final grade by the final weight, then adding the two values.

The formula is: average = midterm × (midterm weight / 100) + final × (final weight / 100). Final weight is 100 - midterm weight.

Final weight is automatic

If you enter 40 as the midterm weight, final weight is automatically 60. Midterm and final weights are assumed to total 100.

40% midterm and 60% final example

If midterm grade is 70, final grade is 80 and midterm weight is 40%, final weight is 60%.

The average becomes 70 × 0.40 + 80 × 0.60 = 28 + 48 = 76.

How is passing status interpreted?

In the current runtime logic, an average of 50 or above is shown as passing, while below 50 is shown as failing.

This threshold is part of the calculator logic. Some universities may require a minimum final exam score, attendance, curve grading or different course-passing rules.

50 may not be official for every university

If your university has a minimum final score, raw score threshold or relative grading, do not rely only on this tool’s pass/fail result.

What do I need on the final?

If the calculated average is below 50, the tool can estimate the final exam score needed to reach 50 based on the entered midterm grade and weight.

The logic is: required final = (50 - midterm × midterm weight) / final weight, using weights as decimal coefficients.

Required final is based on 50

The required final score is calculated using the calculator’s 50 pass threshold. If your university uses another threshold, the interpretation changes.

When can passing be impossible?

In some cases, the midterm grade and weight may be so low that even a 100 on the final cannot raise the average to 50.

In that case, the tool may show that the required final score is above 100 or that passing is not possible under the calculator’s 50-threshold logic.

What does “already passing” mean?

If the course average is calculated as 50 or above, the tool may show that the student is already passing.

This does not mean your university has no additional conditions. Some universities require attending the final, scoring a minimum final grade or meeting attendance rules.

Already passing is not absolute

Even if the average is enough, your university may still require a minimum final exam score or final exam attendance.

How is letter grade calculated?

The tool may show an approximate letter grade based on the course average. In the current table, 90+ is AA, 85+ BA, 80+ BB, 75+ CB, 70+ CC, 65+ DC, 60+ DD, 50+ FD and below 50 FF.

This table may not be your university’s official letter-grade system. Some universities use curve grading, different thresholds or different coefficients.

Letter grade is approximate

AA, BA and BB ranges may vary between universities. Check the official grading table for official use.

What midterm weight can be entered?

The tool accepts midterm weight between 1 and 99. It does not accept 0 or 100 because that would make one of the exams have no effect.

Common examples include 40/60, 30/70 or 50/50, but course rules may differ.

Are quizzes, projects or labs included?

No. This tool uses only midterm grade, final grade and midterm weight. It does not include quizzes, projects, labs, homework, attendance points or practice scores as separate components.

If your course has additional components, you may need to first combine them into one intermediate grade or use your university’s official calculation method.

Does it calculate makeup or resit exams?

No. The tool does not automatically handle makeup, resit or bütünleme exam rules. In some universities, a resit may replace the final; in others, different conditions may apply.

For those cases, check the course and university regulation.

Difference from the university GPA calculator

The midterm-final calculator calculates the grade for one course. The university GPA calculator combines multiple course grades with credit weights.

After calculating a course grade here, you can enter that grade with its credit value in the university GPA calculator.

What does this tool not calculate?

  • It does not guarantee every university’s official passing rule.
  • It does not separately model minimum final exam requirements.
  • It does not calculate curve grading or relative evaluation.
  • It does not include quizzes, projects, labs, homework or attendance points.
  • It does not process makeup, resit or bütünleme rules.
  • It does not calculate multi-course GPA or CGPA.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is midterm-final average calculated?

Midterm grade is multiplied by midterm weight, final grade by final weight, and both are added. Final weight is 100 minus midterm weight.

How do I calculate 40% midterm and 60% final?

Use average = midterm × 0.40 + final × 0.60.

How do I find what I need on the final?

The tool calculates the required final using the 50 pass threshold: required final = (50 - midterm × midterm weight) / final weight.

Is 50 always the official pass mark?

No. This tool uses 50, but your university may have different rules.

Is the letter grade official?

No. It is approximate. Your university’s official grading table may differ.

Are quizzes or projects included?

No. The tool uses only midterm, final and midterm weight.
