The LGS score calculator, provided by Hesapstan, helps students and parents estimate an LGS score from correct and wrong answers. It is designed to make mock exam results easier to understand and to connect the score with high school goals, percentile, base score and school preference in Turkey.

What is LGS?

LGS is Turkey’s high school transition system, including the central exam used for placement into selective high schools. It is especially relevant for students aiming for schools such as science high schools, social sciences high schools, selected Anatolian high schools, project schools and certain technical programs.

An LGS result is not just a number. For students and parents, it becomes meaningful when it is read together with percentile, target schools, base scores, quotas, school type, location and preference strategy.

LGS score is the beginning of preference research

A score is important, but high school preference also depends on percentile, quotas, previous base scores, school type and the student’s realistic goals.

Which tests are included in LGS?

The central LGS exam includes verbal and numerical sections. The verbal section includes Turkish, Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism, Religious Culture and Ethics, and Foreign Language. The numerical section includes Mathematics and Science.

  • Turkish: 20 questions
  • Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism: 10 questions
  • Religious Culture and Ethics: 10 questions
  • Foreign Language: 10 questions
  • Mathematics: 20 questions
  • Science: 20 questions

The exam is designed not only to test memorization but also reading comprehension, interpretation, problem solving, analysis, critical thinking and time management.

How is the LGS score calculated?

The calculation starts with correct and wrong answers for each subtest. The raw score for each subtest is obtained by subtracting one third of wrong answers from correct answers. The official MEB calculation then uses standard scores and test weights.

The basic net formula can be summarized as: net = correct answers - wrong answers / 3. However, the official LGS score is not only this raw net; standard scores, averages, standard deviation and test coefficients also affect the result.

  • Turkish, mathematics and science have higher weight in the official scoring logic.
  • Revolution history, religion and foreign language still affect the total score and can create important differences.
  • The same net score may not produce the exact same score every year because standardization depends on overall student performance.
  • Mock exam scores are useful for preparation, but they are not official MEB results.
Not an official result

This calculator gives an estimate. The official LGS score is the score published by MEB in the student’s official result document.

Net score, LGS score and percentile

Net score, LGS score and percentile are different. Net score comes from correct and wrong answers. The LGS score is a transformed score under MEB’s evaluation system. Percentile shows the student’s relative position among other students and is often more useful during school preference.

If you want to calculate only the raw net first, use the exam net calculator. This page focuses on estimating the LGS score from subject nets.

Percentile can matter more than the score alone

A school’s base score may change from year to year. During preference, students and parents should also check percentile, quotas and previous placement data.

How to use the LGS score calculator

  1. Enter Turkish correct and wrong answers.
  2. Enter Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism correct and wrong answers.
  3. Enter Religious Culture and Ethics correct and wrong answers.
  4. Enter Foreign Language correct and wrong answers.
  5. Enter Mathematics correct and wrong answers.
  6. Enter Science correct and wrong answers.
  7. Review subject nets, total net and estimated LGS score.

Correct plus wrong answers must not exceed the question count of the subject. For example, Turkish, mathematics and science each have 20 questions, while history, religion and foreign language each have 10 questions.

How should students read an LGS result?

A mock LGS result does not define the student’s value. It shows where the study plan needs attention. A low mathematics result may mean a concept gap, calculation mistakes or time pressure. A low Turkish result may point to reading comprehension or interpretation problems.

  • Do not judge your level from one mock exam only.
  • Track subject nets across several exams.
  • After each exam, ask which subject reduced the score most.
  • Turn repeated mistakes into a revision list.
  • Use the score as a study signal, not as a reason to lose motivation.
Success in LGS is not only a number

A strong student does not only ask “what score did I get?” but also “why did I get this score, and which subject can raise it next?”

What does an LGS score mean for parents?

Parents often ask whether a score is enough for a good high school. That is understandable, but one mock exam cannot answer it with certainty. Percentile, target school, quotas, previous base scores, distance, school environment and student motivation should also be considered.

  • Use the result to understand the student’s needs, not to label the student.
  • Look at subject nets, not only the final score.
  • Create a realistic school list with ambitious, balanced and safer options.
  • Check base scores and quotas from MEB and e-Okul resources.
  • Avoid statements that damage the student’s motivation before the real exam.
No guaranteed school prediction

This calculator cannot guarantee admission to any school. Placement depends on MEB rules, quotas, preferences, percentile and the yearly distribution of students.

LGS score and high school preference

After the result, high school preference research begins. School type, base score, percentile, quotas, city, transport and academic environment all matter.

Students often ask “which high school can I enter with this score?” or “how many nets do I need for a science high school?” These are useful questions, but no fixed answer exists because each year changes with exam difficulty, student distribution, quotas and preferences.

When preparing a preference list, check official e-Okul and MEB data for school base scores, quotas and placement information.

Example LGS net calculation

Suppose a student has 17 Turkish correct and 2 wrong, 13 mathematics correct and 5 wrong, 16 science correct and 3 wrong, 8 history correct and 1 wrong, 9 religion correct and 1 wrong, and 8 foreign language correct and 2 wrong.

  1. Turkish net: 17 - 2 / 3 = 16.33
  2. Mathematics net: 13 - 5 / 3 = 11.33
  3. Science net: 16 - 3 / 3 = 15.00
  4. History net: 8 - 1 / 3 = 7.67
  5. Religion net: 9 - 1 / 3 = 8.67
  6. Foreign language net: 8 - 2 / 3 = 7.33

The calculator then converts these nets into an estimated LGS score. The official score may differ because MEB uses standard scores and official evaluation data.

Common mistakes in understanding LGS

  • Treating net score as the official score.
  • Using one mock exam to judge the student’s future.
  • Looking only at base score and ignoring percentile.
  • Forgetting that different tests have different weights.
  • Building a preference list around only one school.
  • Turning the score into pressure instead of a study plan.
Build a flexible target range

A better LGS strategy includes ambitious, realistic and safer school options. This reduces stress and improves preference quality.

Does this calculator give an official result?

No. This calculator provides an estimate only. The official result is published by MEB and should be used for preference and placement.

For formal decisions, check the student result document, the current MEB guide and e-Okul school data.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the LGS score calculated?

The raw score starts from correct and wrong answers. One third of wrong answers is subtracted from correct answers, and MEB’s official scoring then uses standard scores and test weights.

Do 3 wrong answers cancel 1 correct answer in LGS?

In raw score calculation, one third of wrong answers is subtracted from correct answers. This is commonly explained as 3 wrong answers canceling 1 correct answer.

Does this calculator show the official percentile?

No. Official percentile depends on the distribution of all students and is published with official MEB results.

Can this calculator tell which high school I can enter?

No. Admission depends on percentile, quotas, preferences, previous data and official MEB placement rules.

How should a student use an LGS mock exam result?

The best use is to track subject nets, identify weak topics and build a focused study plan instead of focusing only on the final score.
